Bill Nye the Science Guy

Bill Nye the Science Guy. For me, he’s not simply a teacher. He’s someone who is a part of my childhood. He was there during those pure stages of life when learning was fun and liberating. He was there when discovery of the unknown was cooler than those material items. He was there when being a kid meant so much more than being the richest, the one with the most secure job, the one who had the latest video game.

Today, I waited three hours to see him. I listened to him speak. I watched him with those awestruck eyes of an innocent child. I became moved when he talked about his greatest inspiration and changing the world. I met him, shook hands with him, got his autograph. I was able to recall that remarkable stage in life when nothing in the world mattered, but living and learning.

Sometimes it takes a reminder of our past to liberate us for the future. There are times in our lives when we need to be reminded that living is so much more than security and what society deems valuable. Embracing the world. Making a difference. That childhood conviction to change the world. That foolishness. That innocence. That beautiful thing.

Thank you, Bill Nye.

Your impact on the world is indescribable.

Let’s change the world.
